Dont Rhine is cofounder of the sound art collective Ultra-red. Since its inception in 1994, Ultra-red has approached sound as a medium for occupying the boundaries between art and political organizing. Ultra-red’s numerous associates in North America and Europe have produced radio broadcasts, performances, recordings, installations, and social-movement texts on migration struggles, antiracism, participatory community development, and the politics of HIV/AIDS. Rhine has participated in many Ultra-red projects including the performance series Silent/Listen. Rhine’s political involvement has included ACT UP Los Angeles, Clean Needles Now, Pride at Work/AFL-CIO, and, presently, CHAMP (Community HIV/AIDS Mobilization Project).
