Lynn Hershman Leeson has worked extensively in virtually every conceivable medium: interactive and net-based, photography, video, film, performance, and installation. Hershman Leeson wrote, directed, edited, and produced the highly acclaimed films Strange Culture, Teknolust, and Conceiving Ada. Her films have been featured and distributed internationally, and her pioneering media work has garnered prizes that include the Golden Nica Prix Ars Electronica; the Alfred P. Sloan Film Prize (for writing and directing); Media that Matters; and the ZKM/Siemens Media Arts Award. Her work is in numerous collections, including the MoMA in New York, the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, and the ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe. In September 2007, the Whitworth Museum in Manchester will present her first European retrospective. She has published widely on digital culture and art. She is an emeritus professor at the University of California, Davis; an A. D. White Professor at Large at Cornell University; and chair of SFAI’s Film department.
